The Phenocam

We invite you to visit the Highlands Biological Station's Phenology Garden in person, or make use of our garden's Webcam to make observations. This is the essence of Phenology, to observe the plants in the garden through the seasons. Sitting atop a tower with weather motes custom-designed by Dr. Brian Howell of WCU's Engineering & Technology Department, our "Phenocam" permits remote users to zoom in on plants in and around the Phenology Garden in order to make observations. The Mote sensors will allow users to observe the exact weather conditions at four points in the garden when viewing the video. The camera itself is a state of the art, 1080p, high definition camera. It allows the user to pan, tilt, and zoom to various locations in the garden at lower resolution quickly, then observe down to the blossom level at 35x zoom with high definition.

Click the "public" view to see the current view, or sign up to schedule time for making observations with the camera in "private view" which allows you to pan, tilt, and zoom the camera to various locations around the garden.
